Glennik
Type: Elemental Construct

The Pillars of Magic flow through the world of Khedras like blood through a body. It empowers people, monsters, even the plants and animals. In ancient times the Pillars changed a forest, made some of the trees sentient and strong in magic.
Glenniks spread from that one forest to others, and so on until the current age. They violently defend their homes against all intruders, and do not speak much to outsiders. A long time ago they were hunted almost to extinction by the mortal races and other humanoids. When faced with their extermination, they found a most unusual solution.
They turned their magics to necromancy, and now sap the life essence of their victims into themselves. Within a central cavity they maintain a Dormant Seed. This seed can be used as a magic font or to plant a new Glennik in their forest. Glenniks keep these seeds guarded and secret.

“Some people view a glennik as a forest-tending, happy tree elemental. Yeah, until they see one rip a friend’s soul out. That’s when you realize it doesn’t see flesh-things as valuable.”
-Sediat, Lorekeeper and explorer

Animals

Animals is a broad category that includes many species. They share two traits; lower intelligence and self propagation. The world of Khedras is filled primarily with animals, mostly prey, but some predators.  Animals range from domestic pets to ocean dwelling krakens.

Defiled

This is a species that has been changed, or defiled, by magic. In these cases the changes have propagated with all their offspring to create a new species. Defiled often possess dangerous poisons or Morphean powers.  They are violent and often dominate more natural species in their habitats. Intelligence levels vary greatly between species of defiled.

Denizens

The denizens of the Stygian Isles are extra-dimensional beings of great and exotic power. These ancient races are as diverse as they are powerful, unified only by their hatred of the mortal races. They scheme for ways to breach the Covenant, the divine barrier that keeps them out of Khedras.

Elementals

As the name implies each of these creatures has a natural link to one or more of the four elemental forces. Some are mindless engines of destruction, while others are sophisticated. Their defining trait is their power source.

Fomori

Formori are similar to defiled in that they have been changed by magic. Where they differ is fomori are individuals rather than an entire race. Fomori do not reproduce their own kind, yet there are some identical fomori, which means there is a path to their power that can be replicated by others.

Humanoids

Humanoids are similar to the playable races. They use the same tools, weapons, and magics. They often live in the wildlands, without cities or societies beyond simple tribes.  They are varied, dangerous, and unpredictable.

Lunari

The Lunari  defy easy description. They hide in the Unseen Courts, a shard dimension of their own, yet they are not denizens or rhokin. The Lunari possess bizarre powers and even stranger forms that bewilder mortals. They are ruled by the Matriarch & the Horned King.

Rhokin

Mirhondas spawns a multitude of monsters drawn from the nightmares of the mortal world. These rhokin have short lives before the mirror realm returns them to primal essence. Rhokin are commonly conjured as they are much less volatile than denizens.

Undead

These monsters may be among the most horrific of all. Neither truly dead nor alive, the undead feel no pain or mercy. Their necrotic powers are often enhanced at night or in the dark. These terrors have plagued the world since ancient times, and remain some of the most dangerous foes of mortals.
